Course Information

Academic Objectives

To give students a solid foundational base in which to begin an education in the field of plant medicine.
To teach students the skills necessary to design and make herbal formulas.
To teach students about the organic growing and wild crafting of herbs, and about the ecological and political concerns of modern herbalism.


Vocational Objectives

To provide an introduction to those who have a general interest in plant medicine.
To prepare students for placement at health food stores, nutrition specialty stores and other jobs in the herbal industry requiring a general knowledge of herbs.
To prepare a foundation for further clinical plant medicine training.

Materia Medica of 120 herbs
Energetics of Herbalism
Introduction to Aromatherapy
Nutrition in the Lifespan
Wild Plant Propagation
Medicine Making
Introduction to Flower Essences
Journeying to Plants
Body Systems and Energetics
Flower Essences and Herbs for the Mind
Botanical Field Studies


Participation Requirements

Students must submit a completed application form and a signed contractual agreement by the first day of class.

Students must have an official transcript sent directly to The Chicago College of Healing Arts. Accepted forms include a GED certificate, a high school diploma, or transcripts from a post secondary institution.  In rare cases exceptions may be made, but such students must undergo an interview process and receive the approval of the Dean of Bodywork and a minimum of two other instructors.

Students must submit a 1-3 page typed essay explaining their experience in complimentary healthcare, the subject they are choosing to study with us, and why they are seeking further training as well as their career goals in that field.

All applicants must present at least two letters of reference from former teachers, ministers or other respected community members attesting to their character and their competence to undertake the work.

Payment of a application fee of $75.00.

System Requirements

Additionally students must have a online computer capable of connecting to the webcasts and/or viewing the downloaded videos.
